My sister’s baby shower

Posted by Tina

It was a success!

My sister was surrounded by her family and friends who love her and she was showered with beautiful gifts for her and the baby. The games I had planned were a hit. I was surprised that hardly anyone had heard of the "my water's broke!" game. My sister's MIL kindly made some yummy slices and I also provided cupcakes, chocolate covered strawberries, mini spring rolls, spinach and feta triangles, and cheese and crackers as well as the usual beverages.

I would have loved to show you more photos but unfortunately ONE of the reasons I'm not is because we sorta got carried away and didn't photograph the games and only remembered the camera when P was opening her gifts! I did get a great photo of my BIL trying on his nappy kit though...lol

OK, so the baby shower is done. Bring on my sister's 30th birthday P themed party!

Today’s the baby shower!

Posted by Tina

babyshower It's 8.30am. I'm still in my pajamas. It's cold and raining and miserable outside. I wonder if this weather is going to affect the number of guests that turn up to the baby shower this afternoon?

I have to take DS16 to get a blood test (he's fasted all night for it) this morning before I leave for the shower. Oh, and I need to stop by my grandmother's house (she can't attend the shower) because she has made some food for the shower. Even if we tell her that she doesn't have to cook anything or bring anything, she always does!

So, everything is ready for the shower. We went to my sister's house yesterday. DH and DS16 helped hang up the decorations. I set up the food, drink and gift tables. The games are all organised. DD15 is helping me today to serve food and drinks and help with the games. She'll also be my photographer.

I baked the cupcakes last night. I'll ice them once I'm at my sister's house because I don't want them to get mooshy in the car going over there! I also dipped the strawberries in chocolate so they are ready to go. I told DH and the kids not to touch the party food. DH came into the bedroom last night with this cheeky grin on his face and said "I stole 2 of the strawberries". LOL I knew he couldn't help himself!

So, things to do....places to go....people to see!

Happy Saturday, friends!

Too early for the "C" word?

Posted by Tina

I'm going to reveal another secret of mine.

It's usually around this time of year, when the Christmas decorations start appearing in the stores, that I start itching to get my Christmas stuff out. I know it's WAY too early but there's nothing wrong with getting my storage tubs down and going through all the decorations to make sure that I have enough of everything and to check if there's anything I need to buy, is there? OK, maybe I'm just trying to justify it for myself..LOL

Luckily, all of our Christmas stuff is stored in a cupboard that I can quite easily get to myself so if I do decide to go through the boxes, I don't need to hear the "why are you going through this stuff now?" questions from DH while he's getting the boxes down for me. I just have to make sure I do it while he's not at home..LOL

We usually wait until December 1 to put up our Christmas tree but a couple of weeks before that, I start putting out little decorations here and there (all the while hoping that DH won't notice and start his BA-HUMBUGGING early!)

When do you start decorating for Christmas?

My water’s broke!

Kim @ What's That Smell? commented:

So I haven't heard of this baby shower game, fill me in! I'm planning a baby shower for my sister, plus my sister in law is having one and I'm in charge of the games for that one.

Basically, the aim of the game is to "give birth" to your baby first.

You will need:

  • little plastic babies (I bought mine on eBay)
  • plastic jelly shot cups (or something similar)
  • water

All you need to do is freeze one baby in each shot cup.

To play:

When the guests have all arrived, each one gets a "baby ice cube". Instruct them that they may not touch their "baby ice cube" or take it out of the cup but they can do anything else they want to "deliver their baby". The first person who has a baby free of ice yells  "My water broke!" and they receive the prize.

I made pretty cupcakes!

Posted by Tina

I was going to order cupcakes for the baby shower on Saturday but I thought I'd give making them a go and see how they come out. I decided to do a test run first. So, I kinda cheated and bought a packet mix and a tub of vanilla icing and they turned out like this:

The icing was actually a lighter yellow than how it came out in the photo. My testers (the kiddos and my dad and step mum) gave them a thumbs up. My step mum even suggested that I bought them and was pretending that I made them...lol...I must admit that I HAVE done that in the past but this time, these cupcakes were my creation!

So I think I WILL go ahead and make a bath for the baby shower and I have pretty cupcake picks (in a baby theme) to put on top. Of course, I'll share photos when I make them...lol

Psycho mama?!

Posted by Tina

I know that my kids think I'm strange...lol...and I don't help the situation by sticking reminders like this on the fridge....

Of course, I was referring to the little babies for the "My waters broke!" game for the baby shower! LOL

How hard is it???

Posted by Tina

Seriously, I KNOW that I'm not the only mama to complain about no-one else in the house knowing how to change the toilet roll when it is finished. I make it easy for the family but keeping the spare rolls right near the toilet but do you think that helps?!

With 7 people in the mummified household, we go through a fair bit of toilet paper so I feel as though I'm changing the roll every hour.....OK, slight exaggeration but you do know what I mean, right?!

But I found a solution!

bigroll

Only problem is....I'm not sure where to buy these big-ass rolls of toilet paper...Ha Ha! I didn't mean big-ass as in for big butts. I meant it as in HUGE rolls of toilet paper...lmao

Rock On Sistah Friend!

Posted by Tina

I only just realised that I didn't post about the latest award that I was presented with...how slack is that?!

RockonSistahFriend Jia of Color Me Untypical fame presented me with her "Rock On Sistah Friend" award because:

"I love anything Tina writes. Not only is she Aussie (one of my favourite types of chicas), but she's a mother to five kids! And still finds time to blog and fill my need to bloggy goodness, keeping me from doing my own housework!"

LOL That's cool! :)

So, the rules for this award are:

1. If you receive the "Rock on Sistah Friend" award, you must post the button on your blog (in sidebar or in a post), and link back to Color Me Untypical.

2. Let me know if you receive the award from someone, so I can add you to our Sistah's Who Rock Blogroll, and give them my personal "Rock On Sistah Friend!"

3. In the post on your blog, you must give the award away to 3 other Sistah's who you think rock. Post links to their blogs, why they rock, and post the rules to the award. Also, let them know you've given them the award so they too can celebrate themselves and pass on the love.

The 3 Sistah's I pass this award on to are:

Chris @ Diet Coke Rocks - This chick rocks! She's down to earth and tells it like it is. I read her blog daily (but I'm a big lurker!).

Diane @ Where Do I Get Started??? - While her blog is called Where Do I Get Started??? Diane is a machine. I love reading her posts about decluttering and getting her home organised. She is an inspiration!

Felicity @ The Voice Of FMLL - Felicity's posts are always interesting to read. This blog and her weightloss blog are on my must-read list. AND she's a great Twitter pal too :)

Cupcake Bag Bags!

Posted by Tina

001 I received the cutest gift from my step mum! Cupcake bag bags! She knows about my obsession with cupcakes and wanting to decorate my kitchen in a pink, cupcake theme so she bought this pretty cupcake material and made me these bag holders - aren't they cute?!

Thanks, K!

I {heart} cupcake stuff! Finding new cupcake things to decorate my kitchen makes me as happy as I would be if I was sent on one of those Disney cruises I've read about...hint hint, DH!

Whatcha searchin’ for?

Posted by Tina

I was looking at my stats for this blog today. I had a bit of a chuckle about the searches that people have done and were sent to this blog. Words like "dirty housewife" and "naked housewife" have given me too many visitors...lol...I feel bad for the people searching those words only to come to my blog and read about me being a housewife and having a dirty oven or something...lol As for naked housewife, sorry! You'll find pictures of a nekkid baby with her booty censored on my Mummified blog but no nekkid housewives here!

I think DH was worried about what I was posting about when I mentioned the search terms but I showed him that majority of search terms were things like home management binder, Christmas notebook, equestrian clothing and english saddles (I think from when I was posting about the Olympics).

I've had lots of hits from people searching "how to be a perfect housewife" and it's kind of assuring that I'm not the only one who isn't perfect yet! LOL
